Hello to you all
I’m Marcel and am living in the Netherlands. In this country Calico owners are very rare but they exist.
The legally ownership of firearms in the Netherlands is restrict for Official Gun Collectors, hunting and Shooting sports. Most people who own firearms have these for the sporting reasons. We have a union called the KNSA who regulate the contact between the government en the people who shoot for sport. There many disciplines popular like the official U.I.T. and I.P.S.C.
Automatics are forbidden but if you know the rules of the came almost everything else is possible.
I’m founder and Chairmen of an organization called the Association for Practical Shooting (APS). This organization is arranging dynamic shooting matches (DSR) similar to I.P.S.C. Rifle but then open for almost everyone who has a rifle. The main different between DSR and I.P.S.C. is that during a DSR match the weapons needed to be unloaded when the shooter runs from one position to another. Like in the I.P.S.C. time and precision are combined for the score but only the DSR matches are much longer then their I.P.S.C. counterpart. For example a long I.P.S.C. Rifle course lasted around 30 rounds. In a DSR match it is not strange 100 rounds will be needed in around 3 minutes. Also there is no restriction to the ammunition that is used and therefore .22lr. Carbines are also allowed.
In the late eighties a good friend had bought a Calico .22lr. carbine and ever since we liked this little rifle but as mentioned they are hard to find here in Europe. When years later a Calico M100 was found in a Gun store I bought the weapon. The idea was to use it for the DSR discipline so it had to be adapted. A good friend made a new stock and a sort of RAS system for all kinds of goodies which can be useful for the games. A year later a second Calico was found and bought because replacement parts are very hard to get here in the Netherlands. The extra weight of the RAS system and stock, the extra front grip and the low possession of the sight gave the Calico a better balance and therefore it is possible to give extreme fast semi automatic burst whit reasonable precision. For example we tested on twenty five meters how fast we can shoot in a ten centimeter diameter circle. Fourteen seconds were needed to place all 100 rounds in this circle. Of course this rate of fire is not used during shooting matches but it goes very fast and this could result in high scores.
Because I have managed to get some much needed spare parts at this moment the second Calico is heavily modified. The barrel is made 10” shorter and a free floating turning RAS system is made. This conversion new RAS system aloud me to use two separated sights at the same time. A holographic sight for fast shooting and a Scout scope for precision. Also a part is being designed to use CAR15 buttocks.
As this is finish a fast system to carry the two spare magazines will be designed and clear side panels for the magazines. Also a speed loader for the magazines is on my mind but I hope Calico will made this item in the future.
This was my story hope you folks liked it.
Nice shooting to you all,
Marcel

WOW!!!!!
Marcel,
Do you still have the Calico? Your Calico looks incredible! What a gorgeous piece! I love the stock.
Calicos ARE rare to come by here in the States also.
So, when I had my chance to get an original m900 9mm carbine, I GOT it!
(Now I know what Notorious B.I.G. meant when he said "I got the Calico with the Black Talons in the clip" lol) |

| What a great weapon! Those modifications are very unique. It is good to know that citizens of other countries are using these weapons. If you could post pictures of the weapon broken down it would be nice to see how you modified it. I like your use of Red Dot with Iron Sights. Don't think I have seen a Calico setup this way yet. |
